Yarn Along 7/24/2013, Poor Man Pickles & FO

Yesterday I dug back into my stash and started on a new project!!!  This is a free pattern form Lion Brand: Autumn Lace.  I tried to connect to the yarn along today, but I keep getting Problem Loading Page 😦

So far I am liking it a lot, but I may have to buy more yarn to make get it to the right size.  I am using Lion Brand Hometown in the Houston Cream for this blanket.  I just got started yesterday and I am really surprised at how fast this knits and how soft this yarn is.  Love it so far!

I have not had much reading time this week, so I still stuck on Atonement.  The story is getting better, I just have to find some time to read!

And this week I finally get to make so poor man pickles!  I love these so much!!! it was my grandpa’s recipe and it calls for the dill flowers (not the leaves) so you can’t just buy the dill at the store 😦  But my mother in law had some dill invade her yard and was more than happy to give me some!!! So I made up three jars, and I hope I remember the recipe correctly.  The amount of salt is the critical part.  My mother thought it was 1 teaspoon for every cup of water, but when I tried that last time it was WAY to much salt.  That could be because I was using sea salt not table salt.  So I am cutting the salt in half and hope this works!

I also finished another Kitchen Sink Bag for  my sister Annie.  I am hoping she’ll let me know if the 100% cotton did it job.  The first bag I did for my self is to stretchy (more on THAT later!).  So for this bag, I also only cast on 60 stitches, nto the 76 the pattern calls for and double the number of rows for the mesh.  I think it looks great, now I just have to hope that it does not expand….

Now, I just have to shipping it out to her!

Love it! the bag looks great! And Atonement is a great book! I loved it to death. When we read it for a book club about a year ago I wrote up a bunch of discussion questions on it, Let me know if you’re interested in them and I can send them your way! xx

The bag is lovely. You could stop it stretching so much by adding a simple cotton lining and lining the straps. A tangerine colour with this lime would look lovely peeping through the holes 🙂

Poor Man Pickles is one teaspoon of salt per jar = 4 cups of liquid/water.
